While visiting Japan this Summer I was lucky enough to stay for a night in the Park Hyatt Hotel in Tokyo, which was the setting for the movie Lost in Translation. I’d hoped for a room with a view over the city but it turns out the scene from my window looking back over the highways in the other direction also afforded a great picture.
I spent a long time perched precariously between the windowsill and a leaning chair with my tripod wedged against the glass to try to get this shot. Needless to say, not many attempts succeeded!
Tokyo is a mishmash of frenetic 24-hour movement coupled with serene historic Buddhist temples. It shouldn’t work but it really does. The high rises (of which the Park Hyatt is the 2nd highest in Tokyo) provide great views across the lit up modern infrastructure at night but in the day time, the temples really become the focal point.
